about

Twin Size Beds is a theatrical concert written by Sam Max with music by Sam Max and Avery Leigh Draut. The live performances of Twin Size Beds are directed by Caitlin Ryan O'Connell. This album is the music from that concert.

In an abandoned tree house, a limp-wristed boy hides during the annual neighborhood game of hide-and-seek. While he waits for a gang of metal-mouthed peers to find him, Sam’s newfound solitude spurs songs about nihilistic desire, and fuzzy hallucinations of his sexual future. He sings as a twelve-year-old, then as a seventeen-year-old, and back again, about hiding places, and the soccer boys, and a certain kind of eternal splintering that comes and goes but mostly stays.

The work has shown in full at The Public's Under the Radar Festival and Joe's Pub at The Public, and has been excerpted at the Museum of Sex, New York Theater Workshop, and HISS Magazine. The piece was initially developed through the Forklift Residency at Loading Dock Theater.
